Contact access and permissions
ContactNest needs access to your contacts to display and edit the contacts your phone makes available. If contact access is off, use the button in ContactNest or your device settings to grant it again.
Other permissions and special access are requested only for features that need them. For example, Android Phone integration, Call Protection, changing the system default ringtone, notifications, and App Lock use Android system permission or role flows. ContactNest does not silently make itself your default Phone app.
Searching and filters
Search can match names, numbers, email addresses, companies, and other supported contact details. On the Contacts tab, the main scope is one choice at a time: All, Favorites, or In group. Search combines with the selected scope.
Search is also available inside group detail and in the pickers used to add contacts to a group.
Groups
ContactNest groups
ContactNest groups can hold contacts from different contact accounts. Creating and editing ContactNest groups is part of Unlock ContactNest. Searching and filtering contacts you can already see remains available without the unlock.
Provider groups
ContactNest also shows compatible groups supplied by your phone or contact account. Provider groups remain owned by that provider. Some can have membership changed; some system groups are read-only. ContactNest does not pretend a provider group is editable when the phone will not allow it.
Adding many contacts
From a ContactNest group, tap Add contacts, search or change the picker scope, select the people you want, and save. Bulk management tools are part of Unlock ContactNest.
My Profile
My Profile is ContactNest-owned information for you. It is separate from the contacts stored by Google, Samsung, or another provider and is not automatically created as a provider contact. You can keep your name, organization, job title, phone numbers, email addresses, and profile photo there.
Backup and restore
Back up ContactNest creates a .contactnest
file containing supported ContactNest-owned data such as ContactNest
groups and memberships, favorites, supported preferences and call settings,
remembered video routes, and My Profile.
The backup does not contain a copy of your provider contacts. During restore, ContactNest reconnects supported data to contacts that already exist on the device. Missing or ambiguous contacts are skipped rather than created or guessed.
If both the phone and the backup contain My Profile, the restore preview lets you keep the current profile or replace it with the profile from the backup. Keeping the current profile is the default.
Android automatic app-data backup and device-to-device transfer are disabled for ContactNest internal data. If you want a portable ContactNest backup, create one from Settings and save it somewhere you control.
Export contacts
Export contacts creates a standard .vcf
containing provider contact information for use in another compatible app.
This is separate from a ContactNest backup. A .vcf is not used
to restore ContactNest groups, preferences, My Profile, or call settings.
Android Phone integration and Calls
ContactNest works as a contacts app without replacing your normal Phone app. If you want ContactNest to handle calls and show the phone’s full call history, go to Settings → Phone and choose Set ContactNest as default Phone app. Android shows its own system dialog before anything changes.
When ContactNest is not the default Phone app, the Calls tab can still show activity started from ContactNest. When it is the active default Phone app, it can show the device call history, including supported incoming, outgoing, missed, and rejected calls.
You can switch the default Phone app back at any time. If ContactNest loses that role, it stops reading the Android system call log.
Call Protection
On Android, Call Protection uses a separate system role from being the default Phone app. Supported rules can mute or block selected contacts. Android asks you before granting the role. Granting Call Protection does not make ContactNest your default Phone app, and becoming the default Phone app does not automatically enable Call Protection.
Ringtones
ContactNest can choose a ringtone for a contact and can change the phone default ringtone on supported Android devices. Android may ask for special permission before an app can change the system default.
The Custom Ringtone maker is an unlocked feature. Choose an audio file, trim the part you want, preview it, and save the resulting ringtone. Audio processing happens on the device.
App Lock
App Lock uses your device’s own authentication to protect opening ContactNest. ContactNest does not receive or store your fingerprint or face data. App Lock protects the app interface; it does not encrypt provider contacts or prevent other authorized contacts apps from seeing them.
Purchases and Unlock ContactNest
ContactNest is free to download. Unlock ContactNest is a $9.99 one-time purchase. It is not a subscription and nothing renews.
The unlock includes advanced organization and customization tools such as ContactNest group management, bulk management, the custom ringtone maker, App Lock, ContactNest backup and restore, duplicate cleanup, and other unlocked capabilities shown in the app.
Google Play handles payment on Android. ContactNest never receives your card or bank details. Use Restore purchase on a compatible device signed in to the same store account that owns the purchase.
Privacy
ContactNest does not upload your contacts to a ContactNest cloud service, has no ContactNest account, contains no ads, and uses no analytics or advertising identifier. ContactNest-owned data is kept locally unless you explicitly create and save or share a backup or export. See the Privacy Policy for the full details.
Troubleshooting
The contact list is empty
Check ContactNest’s Contacts permission. Also confirm that the contact account you expect is present and synchronized on the phone.
A contact photo will not disappear
Make sure you are running the latest ContactNest build, reopen the contact, choose Remove photo, save, and then reopen the editor. If the photo still returns, contact support with your device model and Android version.
The Calls tab only shows calls I started from ContactNest
That is expected when ContactNest is not the Android default Phone app. Set ContactNest as the default Phone app from Settings if you want ContactNest to show the phone’s full call history.
My incoming call screen does not appear
Confirm ContactNest is still the default Phone app and has the Android notification/full-screen access required for incoming-call presentation. If you force-stopped ContactNest in Android Settings, open it again before relying on it for incoming calls.
